New Zealand played two of their Confederations Cup group games at this stadium and unfortunately ended up on the losing side on both occasions. The All Whites ended their campaign with a goalless draw against Iraq in Johannesburg.

Slovakia are making their debut as an independent nation at this World Cup. The Fighting Jondas qualified for this tournament as winners of Group 3 in European qualifying. The group was not an easy one to qualify from, with teams like the Czech Republic and Poland for company.
