The Netherlands became the first European country to qualify for the 2010 World Cup after they beat Iceland 1-2 over the weekend. Early goals from Nigel de Jong headed and Mark van Bommel gave the Dutch an easy win although Kristjan Sigurdsson pulled one back for Iceland in the 88th minute.

The win made it six out of six for the Dutch in Group Nine of the European round of world cup qualification and gave them a 11-point lead over second placed Scotland; enough to ensure a safe passage to South Africa.

Bert van Marwijk may opt to rest his star players including Dirk Kuyt, Arjen Robben, Rafael van der Vaart and Klaas Jan Huntelaar for this one as the business has already been accomplished.

Meanwhile Norway remained at the bottom of Group Nine after a 0-0 draw against Macedonia at Skopje. The Norwegians have had a wretched campaign and it cannot end soon enough for them as they have collected just three points from four games played so far.

Norway will be searching for their first win of this campaign when they play the Dutch and could be helped by the fact that the latter have already qualified. Manager Egil Olsen will hope his team can salvage some pride and get off the foot of the table come Wednesday.
