 The Dutch secured a comfortable 2-1 win over Mexico in their first pre-tournament friendly with Robin Van Persie scoring a brace. Coach Bert van Marwijk was pleased with the effort and saw enough to name his 23-man squad for the tournament next fortnight.

There were no major surprises as Orlando Engelaar, Vurnon Anita, Ron Vlaar and Jeremain Lens were all released for the squad with van Marwijk deciding to opt for players who helped his side secure a comfortable qualification to the tournament.

Meanwhile Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac will be without his star player for the World Cup after it was confirmed that Michael Essien will be unable to recover in time for the tournament. The Chelsea midfielder has suffered a number of injuries this season but Rajevac was optimistic that he would have recovered to spearhead Ghana’s hopes of progressing to at least the quarter finals.

Rajevac is yet to decide whom to name as the replacement while there are other injury worries for Ghana with John Mensah and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu both not fully fit.
