A confident Republic of Ireland take on Montenegro in their second FIFA World Cup qualifying match on Wednesday. Watch all World Cup qualifiers live here on Live Sport Network.

Montenegro did brilliantly in their first competitive international since separation from Serbia after holding Bulgaria to a 2-2 draw at home in Podgorica. Montenegro almost won the game, but it was only a late equalizer by Blagoy Georgiev gave Bulgaria one point.

 

 

Stilian Petrov gave Bulgaria the lead, but a free-kick from Mirko Vucinic and a penalty from Stevan Jovetic looked like giving Montenegro a deserved win. However it was in the stoppage time that Georgiev drew level for Bulgaria.

Meanwhile Republic of Ireland got their World Cup qualifying campaign to a perfect start with a 1-2 win over Georgia in Mainz. Kevin Doyle put the Republic ahead in 13 minutes with a perfect header. Alexander Iashvili almost pulled level within minutes, but his header was misdirected.

 

 

Glenn Whelan got the Republic's second goal on 70 minutes and despite Levan Kenia's late goal, the Irish managed to get all two points. The game also meant a winning start to Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni.

The Italian said after the game that he withdrew Kevin Doyle, Steve Finnan and Aiden McGeady late on despite the threat of an equalizer from Georgia in order to converse their energies for the Montenegro clash.
