Inter finished third in the recently concluded World Football Challenge. The Nerazzurri lost to Club America on penalties in their opening fixture. They were then beaten 2-0 by Chelsea at the Rose Bowl, but salvaged third place by defeating city rivals Milan 2-0 in Foxborough.

 

New signing Diego Milito ended as Inter's top scorer in the tournament with two goals. Star Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has left for Barcelona. Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o has arrived at the San Siro as part of the deal that sent Ibrahimovic to Spain. Jose Mourinho has bolstered his backline with the capture of Lucio from Bayern Munich and has also added the immensely talented Thiago Motta to his side.

 

2004 Champions League runners up Monaco finished a poor 11th in Ligue 1 last season. The Principality club will be hoping for a better domestic season this time around. They have some impressive youngsters in their ranks like midfielder Nikola Pokrivac and winger Yohan Mallo.

Monaco have already played five friendlies this month. They started off with draws against UNFP and St.Etienne before losing 3-0 to FC Porto. Their only victory came against GSI Pontivy, a game in which Mallo, Park Chu-Young and and Yannick Sagbo scored. Their last game was against Lorient, which ended in a goalless draw.
