Middlesbrough were beaten 2-0 at the Stadium of Light in a disappointing manner especially after star player Stewart Downing had missed a penalty chance. The England midfielder shot over the bar much to the disappointment of the traveling fans as well as manager Gareth Southgate.

 

 

Sunderland made him pay with Michael Chopra netting in both the goals, the second one coming late in injury time.

Boro play Manchester United midweek in the Carling Cup. Mido is doubtful with a groin injury, while Tuncay is out for six weeks with a knee issue. Adam Johnson is struggling with an ankle problem, but should be fit to face West Brom.

 

 

West Brom meanwhile have just the lone win against West Ham so far this season. The Baggies were beaten 1-2 by Aston Villa last week thanks to goals from John Carew and Gabriel Agbonlahor.

James Morrison got a consolation goal for West Brom. One good news for manager Tony Mowbray is that midfielder Felipe Teixeira could be back in training shortly after missing six months due to cruciate knee ligament damage.
