Manchester United will be looking to exert more pressure on Liverpool with a comfortable victory when they visit relegation threatened Middlesbrough on Saturday. The Red Devils are currently three points clear at the top of the league table and could extend their lead to six points with Liverpool not playing until Sunday. While Liverpool are expected to register a thumping victory over the Magpies, manager Alex Ferguson will be satisfied if his side come away with all three points on Saturday.

United were in serious danger of dropping points against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend after they had taken a 2-0 lead in the first half. However the defending champions cranked up the pressure in the second half and scored five goals in space of just 22 minutes to clinch a vital win and maintain their three point advantage at the top.

The defending champions should have no problems in securing a comfortable win over a Middlesbrough side that has lost four of its last six matches. Boro will have to find points from somewhere very quickly if they are to have any hopes of avoid relegation come the end of the season.

Gareth Southgate's side are three points away from safety and will be encouraged by Hull City's poor run of form. Southgate will be hoping to repeat last season's performance that had seen Boro hold United to a 2-2 draw at the Riverside stadium for a second season in a row.

United have some injury concerns at the back with Gary Neville out for the rest of the season while Rio Ferdinand limped off the field during United's 1-0 win over Arsenal in their Champions League clash on Wednesday.
