With just one point from their last four matches and sitting deep in the relegation zone, Boro needed to beat Hull City if they were to have any chances of avoiding the drop and the players rose to the occasion brilliantly as Sanli Tuncay put them in an early lead.

Though Hull fought back to equalize through Manucho, goals from Matthew Bates and Marlon King ensured a comfortable victory for Middlesbrough, lifting some pressure off their manager Gareth Southgate whose job is in serious danger with his side struggling to pull themselves away to safety.

 

 

With Boro scheduled to face Manchester United and Arsenal in their remaining six games, Southgate will be aware that his side will have to win the remaining four matches, starting with Fulham on Saturday in order to collect the required points and climb to safety.

Fulham on the other hand are placed comfortably in the league table and have no fears of relegation. Instead the Cottagers have a great chance of qualifying for Europe next season with the club just one point behind seventh placed West Ham United with still six games remaining in the season.

 

 

Manager Roy Hodgson will be delighted with his side's performance so far this season and will be pushing his players for a one last lap which could ensure their participation in Europe for the first time in five years.
