Middlesbrough have done well to recover from a mixed star and climb up to the 8th spot on the league tables. Manager Gareth Southgate will be pleased with the way his side have performed lately although the form of striker Afonso Alves remains a concern.

Southgate has backed the Brazilian striker to rediscover his form after scoring only three goals for the club so far. However Alves was a central figure in last week's 1-1 draw at Everton. Yakubu announced his return to form after coming back from an injury with a fine goal after Boro had taken the lead through Gary O'Neil in the 8th minute.

 

 

Southgate was happy to come away with a point because the Toffees had the better of the exchanges throughout the game. He is also waiting for word on the condition of Chris Riggott, who went off with a hamstring injury in this game.

Meanwhile Bolton continue to have a mixed season after they sank to a 0-2 defeat to Liverpool at home last weekend. Goals from Dirk Kuyt and Steven Gerrard laid the Trotters low and helped Liverpool stay in touch with Chelsea at the top of the table.

 

 

Boss Gary Megson has had worries in the strike department ever since the departure of Nicolas Anelka to the Bridge early this year. To top this he will be without striker Ricardo Vaz Te for the rest of the season after he underwent surgery on his right knee. Last season, Bolton clinched this fixture 0-1; a result that Megson would gladly take this time around as well.
