Boro are currently placed 12th on the league table with 19 points from 16 games played so far. Manager Gareth Southgate though knows that a few bad results could see them get into a dogfight at the bottom of the Premier League table as the points difference between the bottom half teams is not significant.

That is why Southgate was disappointed when his side lost 1-2 to Hull City last weekend. The Premiership newcomers stunned Boro thanks to a Ross Turnbull own-goal and a Marlon King penalty late in the game. Sanli Tuncay had given Boro the lead, but saw his effort nullified as Hull took all three points from the game.

 

 

David Wheater was sent off in the game and will consequently miss the Arsenal encounter. Boro have not won any game in their last four matches.

Meanwhile Arsenal consolidated their position on the table with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic last weekend. Emmanuel Adebayor's first-half goal gave the Gunners all three points.

 

 

Manager Arsene Wenger will hope his side can continue in the same vein at Teesside as well. One good news for the Gunners boss was that striker Eduardo is ready to return after his horrific leg break last season. However Czech midfielder Thomas Rosicky will be out till March at the latest.
