Boro are on a dismal run of 13 games without a win and find themselves two points clear of safety. Gareth Southgate is slowly feeling the pressure of his side's poor form and will have to turn things around sooner rather than later of he is to remain at helm on the Riverside Stadium.

Middlesbrough suffered their 13th defeat of the season in their last match as a second half goal from Craig Bellamy helped Manchester City to a narrow 1-0 win over Southgate's side. Boro bounced back well to hold West Ham to a 1-1 draw in the fifth round of the FA Cup as Herita Ilunga scored a late equalizer to cancel out Stewart Downing's first half goal. Boro could welcome back Andrew Taylor who has been out of action with a foot injury but Jeremie Aliadiere and Chris Riggott remain on the sidelines.

 

 

Wigan Athletic will be looking to overcome a slight blip in form as they look to maintain their excellent season so far that has seen the club climb up to seventh in the league table and provide them a great chance of qualifying for Europe next season.

The Latics have collected just three points from their last five matches but manager Steve Bruce will be pleased with the overall performance of his side as they held Liverpool and Aston Villa to credible draws.

 

 

With his side scheduled to face Chelsea in their next match, Bruce will be hoping to travel to Stamford Bridge in a confident mood with a convincing victory over Middlesbrough on Saturday.
