Middlesbrough have put up some impressive performances in their recent matches and are currently positioned 12th in the league table, seven points above the drop zone. Manager Gareth Southgate will be pleased with the determination shown by his team after they had slipped to 18th at one point and were struggling register a win.

Boro were unlucky to have lost in their last match against Liverpool with a Fernando Torres hat trick turning the match on its head after Sanli Tuncay had put Middlesbrough in the lead. Stewart Downing grabbed one back for his team but it was too little too late as Liverpool hung on to claim all three points.

Meanwhile Reading manager Steve Coppell will be hoping that his side can halt their worst ever run of defeats and register their first point in nine matches. Reading have now suffered eight consecutive defeats and look set for relegation unless they manage to turn things around and start collecting vital points that will keep them out of the drop zone.

Reading had held Boro to a 1-1 draw early this season and Coppell will be satisfied with a similar result this time around though Reading had lost the only time they have visited the Riverside Stadium last season.
