City's defeat to Liverpool last weekend put curtains to any hopes of European football last season, leaving them four points behind sixth placed Aston Villa. Speculation continues to mount over Eriksson's future at the club and even though fans and players have pledged their support to the former England coach, it looks as if the Swedish manager is on his way out of the club.

City could however finish at their highest ever position in the Premiership if they beat Boro on Sunday and Blackburn Rovers lose their final match by a big margin. Eriksson will be hoping to end the season on a high by completing a comfortable victory over Middlesbrough to register the club's first win in three matches.

For Middlesbrough on the other hand the game has turned out to be a formality after having sealed their Premiership status with a 2-0 win over Portsmouth last weekend. Boro are positioned 14th in the league table and a loss against City coupled with other results going against them could see Gareth Southgate's slip to 16th in the table.

A win on the other hand could see Boro climb to 13th in the table but the club will still finish a spot below what they had reached last season. Southgate is expected to build his squad over the summer and will be looking to put up a more serious challenge to break into the top half next season.
