Middlesbrough squeaked through their fifth round tie against Sheffield United and face yet another Championship side in the form of Cardiff in the quarterfinals this Sunday.

Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate was a relieved man that Boro managed to win even after the fifth round clash against Sheffield United went to extra-time. The latter displayed grit and spirit and were supremely unlucky to lose out due to Paddy Kenny's own goal.

Egyptian striker Mido had sent in a fierce drive that cannoned off the upright, but the Blades goalkeeper was only able to push it over the line off the rebound. Since the Boro have lost to Reading in the Premiership something that Southgate blamed on the fatigue suffered by players after the FA Cup tie against Sheffield United.

Middlesbrough captain Julio Arca has said that his team mates will be spurred on by the thought of making it to Wembley for the finals. However they need to surmount Cardiff before that can happen.

Cardiff meanwhile made it through to the quarterfinals after a 2-0 win over Wolves. Goals from Peter Whittingham and Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink helped Cardiff make it to the quarterfinals for the first time since 1927 when they had won the FA Cup.

Cardiff manager Dave Jones has asked his players to focus on the Championship where they lie on the 14th spot.
