Javier Aguirre’s side are one point behind the United States in the group, and have fifteen points from eight games. Veteran Cuauhtemoc Blanco’s penalty, earned by Giovani Dos Santos, was enough to see off Honduras in the previous round. All three of Mexico’s losses in the hexagonal have come away from home. Barcelona’s Rafael Marquez has returned to the squad, but Dos Santos misses out due to an ankle injury. Aguirre must decide whether to include Marquez or persist with Jonny Magallon and Ricardo Osario in central defence. An injury time strike from Aguila forward Rudis Corrales kept El Salvador’s chances of qualifying for the World Cup alive as they beat Costa Rica in round 8. Should La Selecta lose to Mexico this weekend, they will be eliminated. Like Mexico, El Salvador have been strong at home. All eight of their points have been earned in their own backyard. Or will El Salvador keep their hopes alive with their first away win in the Hexagonal?
