The Citizens saw their £243 million deal for AC Milan midfielder Kaka crash after the Brazilian superstar decided to stay with the Italian club rather than move to England. The news followed by reports that Robinho had left City's training camp in Tenerife and returned to Brazil without permission from manager Mark Hughes.

Media reports were quick to suggest that the former Real Madrid striker is angling for a move away from the City of Manchester stadium though Robinho put out a statement reiterating his commitment for City and explained that he had gone to Brazil to sort out some personal issues.

Mark Hughes revealed that Robinho will be returning to the club on Sunday and will decide on the punishment to be meted out after talks with the striker. Hughes added that Robinho will be playing in the match against Newcastle along with new signings Nigel De Jong and Craig Bellamy.

Bellamy completed a £14 million move from West Ham United while City paid German side Hamburg £17 million for De Jong. After flirting with relegation for some time, City seem to have found some form with the club collecting seven points from their last three matches that saw them register wins against Hull City and Wigan Athletic while collecting a point against Blackburn Rovers.

Newcastle United are once again embroiled in controversy after it was revealed that Andy Carroll and Charles N'Zogbia had a training ground bust-up and had to to be separated by their team mates. Manager Joe Kinnear played down the fight saying that it was blown out of proportion and will not be taking any action to punish the players. The bust up comes just three days after the on-field argument between Joey Barton and Jose Enrique in the match against Blackburn Rovers.
