Villa have managed to retain their six point lead over Arsenal in the race for a Champions League place even though they have collected just five points in their last four matches. However they have been helped by Arsenal's poor run of form that has seen the Gunners collect just four points during the same period and with just 11 matches left, Villa will be desperately hoping that their side will manage to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in more than 25 years.

Martin O'Neill's side were held to a disappointing 2-2 draw by Stoke City at Villa Park on Sunday. Villa looked on course for a comfortable victory when goals from Stiliyan Petrov and John Carew had given them a 2-0 lead by the 79th minute but a brilliant come back from Stoke late in the game saw them first reduce the deficit through Ryan Shawcross in the 87th minute before Glenn Whelan slotted home the equalizer just seconds before the final whistle.

 

 

Manchester City on the other hand will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing defeat to West Ham on Sunday. Having secured their passage to the next round of the UEFA Cup with a 2-1 win over West Ham, Manchester City looked to register their first league win in three matches but were unable to prevent West Ham from collecting all three points thanks to a late goal from Jack Collison.

The win leaves City outside the top half of the table and manager Mark Hughes will be aware that his side will have to show consistency for the remainder of the season if they are to have any hopes of improving on their 9th place finish from the last season.
