Five defeats in their last six matches has seen Sunderland slip from a relatively comfortable position near the top half of the table into the relegation zone. With Keane not sure of his future at the club, fans will be hoping that their team will hit a green patch sooner rather than later and convince the former Manchester United midfielder to continue at the helm.

Sunderland go into their match against United on the back of a disappointing 4-1 thrashing by Bolton last weekend. Djibril Cisse had put Sunderland in an early lead by the 11th minute but two vital blunders by the Sunderland defense allowed Bolton to turn the match on its head thanks to goals from Matthew Taylor and Gary Cahill before Johan Elmander completed the rout with a brace.

 

 

Manchester United meanwhile will be hoping to maintain their excellent home form that has seen them drop just two points in their six matches played so far. Manager Alex Ferguson will be expecting consistent performances from his side as he looks to overturn a six point deficit between themselves and league leaders Liverpool though United do have a game in hand.

While United have looked invincible at home, Ferguson will be worried about their away form that has seen United register just three wins out of eight matches. With the season entering a crucial point, United will have to vastly improve on their away form if they are to have any hopes of winning a third successive league title.
