Porto had beaten United in a last-16 contest in 2003-04 season after earning a hard fought 1-1 draw at Old Trafford and then beating United 3-2 on aggregate thanks to a last minute goal from Costinha. Porto, who were managed by Jose Mourinho at the time, went on to win the trophy.

Ferguson will be without Dimitar Berbatov in this game as the striker is out for two weeks with an ankle injury. However Gary Neville, who has recovered from a groin injury, could be fit for this game.
