The English champions had not tasted defeat at Old Trafford for 23 games before losing out to Besiktas in a dead rubber group stage match this season. Having made it to the final in the last two seasons, manager Alex Ferguson will be confident that his side can once again book a place in the final this time around.

Milan have won all of the four knockout stage meetings between the two sides but will have to secure at least a 2-0 win in order to progress to the next stage.

The Italian side could be without Pato with the striker yet to recover from his hamstring injury which could mean a start for David Beckham against his old club on their home ground.
