The Red Devils fielded a weakened line up and almost grabbed a famous victory over Everton on Sunday but were left wanting in their finishing as Everton managed to break down their attacking moves and progress to the final through penalty shootout.

With Liverpool facing a tough task against Arsenal on Tuesday, United will be hoping to take advantage of any slip ups and extend their lead at the top of the league table. Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs and Edwin Van der Sar should return to the lineup after being rested during the match against Everton while Dimitar Berbatov should start the game in place of Carlos Tevez.

 

 

Portsmouth on the other hand will be looking to repeat their early season heroics and deny another victory for United after having held the defending champions to a 0-0 draw in the Community Shield and narrowly getting beaten at Fratton Park in the league.

Pompey secured a vital win against Bolton Wanderers last weekend with Kanu scoring the winner late in the game to pull Portsmouth six points clear of the relegation zone. With the bottom three clubs struggling to collect points, Pompey are favorites to retain their place in the Premier League next season but manager Paul Hart will be hoping for a strong finish to the season that could earn him some brownie points when the club board searches for a permanent manager at the end of the season.
