Manchester United welcome Spanish side Espanyol to Old Trafford for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's testimonial match on Saturday when the former Norwegian striker will wear the United shirt for the last time before officially retiring from the game.
Solskjaer had announced his retirement in August last season after he failed to recover completely from his persistent knee problem that had kept the striker in and out of the team for the past three seasons. Solskjaer is currently studying for his coaching badges but continues to remain at Old Trafford as the full-time Reserve team manager. United go into the game after a fairly successful African tour where they played a total of four matches, winning three and drawing one, including one against Portsmouth in Nigeria. The United team wears a settled look with no signings so far this season though speculation continues over the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid and the arrival of Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham Hotspur.
Meanwhile Espanyol manager Tintin Marquez will be hoping to add a couple of new names to his squad before the start of the season. Marquez replaced Ernesto Valverde after he was appointed as the Olympiacos coach in May this year.
Marquez has so far signed Beranger, Cristian Alvarez and Jose Callejon while Sergio Sanchez's loan deal was extended for another year. Espanyol finished 12th in the league last season, just three points away from the top half of the table and Marquez will be hoping to break into the top 10 this time around.
