Manchester United will be looking to bounce back from their shock defeat to West Ham United with a convincing win over Birmingham City when the two teams clash on New Year's day. Cristiano Ronaldo had put United in the lead in the 14th minute but missed from the penalty spot allowing West Ham to win the game with late goals from Anton Ferdinand and Matthew Upson. The loss topples United from the top of the league table and leaves them two points behind league leaders Arsenal.

Manager Alex Ferguson will be hoping that the defeat was a one off and his team will return back to their attacking best with a relatively easy set of fixtures ahead. Edwin Van der Sar and Gary Neville could make a comeback in the match against Birmingham after recovering from their respective injuries.

Meanwhile Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish will be hoping to get something from the clash even though his team is favorites to suffer a heavy defeat against Manchester United. Birmingham are currently positioned 15th in the league table and are 3 points away from the relegation zone.

With the club scheduled to play Arsenal and Chelsea after United, McLeish will be hopeful that his side comes out with as little damage to their Premiership status as possible. Birmingham had lost 1-0 to United in the first leg of the fixture and will be hoping to improve on that result and come away with at least a point on Tuesday.
