Manchester City began their Premiership campaign on a dismal note losing 4-2 to Aston Villa in their first game. A hat-trick from Gabriel Agbonlahor and a goal from John Carew nullified Elano and Vedran Corluka's efforts for City.

West Ham boss Alan Curbishley is under pressure and has been given the dubious honor of being the first manager to be sacked by the bookies. However performances like these will only strengthen his position. Last season this contest had ended in a 1-1 draw.
