A little over three and a half years since their last trip to Eastlands, Scunthorpe United face Manchester City again in Cup competition as the two sides meet in the fourth round of the Carling Cup on Wednesday night. City had their 100% home record broken by Fulham on Sunday afternoon. Second half goals from Joleon Lescott and Martin Petrov had given the hosts a 2-0 lead at the hour mark, but Fulham took advantage of some sloppy defending from Mark Hughes’ side to come out of the game with a point.

City also played Fulham in the third round of the Carling Cup, where an extra time goal from Kolo Toure allowed them to progress to the next round. Toure scored the winner in the 111st minute after Gareth Barry had cancelled out Zoltan Gera’s opener for Fulham.

Scunthorpe had their two match winning streak brought to an abrupt end as they were beaten 3-0 by relegation threatened Peterborough. The Irons went into the game on a high after wins over Sheffield United and Newcastle United, but were brought down to earth thanks to a wonderful individual performance from Peterborough’s George Lloyd.

Scunthorpe were drawn against Port Vale in the third round of the competition. The game ended goalless after normal time, but Scunthorpe won it in extra time courtesy of goals from Paul Hayes and Grant McCann.
