City’s hard fought draw against Stoke City has seen the club hold a one point lead in fourth place and manager Roberto Mancini will be aware that his side will have to beat Liverpool if they are to qualify for the Champions League.

The Citizens were lucky to come away with a point against Stoke as the hosts dominated the game in spite of being reduced to 10 men. After a hard fought first half, Glenn Whelan opened the scoring for Stoke before Gareth Barry equalized for City just four minutes from the final whistle. Carlos Tevez continues to remain out of action after being given a compassionate leave while Craig Bellamy and Vincent Kompany are both injured. Shaun Wright-Phillips, Stephen Ireland and Martin Petrov are also a doubt for the game with the trio yet to regain full fitness.

Meanwhile Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez will be hoping that his side can once again rise to the occasion and secure a vital win. Liverpool are struggling to qualify for next season’s Champions League and their hopes of a late comeback will handed a big blow if they lose out to City this weekend.
