While FC Twente have already played one group game, Thursday night will be City’s first game in Group A. City have been very inconsistent lately, and went down 0-2 to bottom of the table Bolton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon. Ricardo Gardner scored his first league goal in six years to give Bolton the lead in the second half, and an own goal from Richard Dunne allowed the Trotters to increase the margin further. Robinho had a very poor outing against Bolton, and kept giving the ball away. City need him to play like he did against Stoke, when he bagged a hat trick. What was more disturbing for Hughes was the fact that it was an almost full strength City lineup- they only did not have Jo. With games against Schalke and PSG to come after this, a win at Eastlands would help City greatly.

 

 

Twente had their run of three successive Eredivisie wins halted by Ajax on Saturday. They lost 2-0, just like City, with the Ajax goals being scored by De Jong and Lindgren. Twente are managed by former England boss, Steve McClaren, a man well known to Mark Hughes and co. Twente’s goal against Santander was scored by Romano Denneboom. Twente lost to Arsenal in the qualifying stages of the Champions League, but beat Rennes on the away goals rule to reach this round. At the Emirates, they were comfortably beaten 4-0 by Arsenal.
