Mark Hughes’ Manchester City, the only English team left in the UEFA Cup, host Danish giants AaB on Wednesday evening in the first leg of their round of 16 UEFA Cup tie. Watch live UEFA Cup Round of 16 with free football tv, the best place to watch European soccer online.

 

 

City are the only team from the qualifying rounds to reach the round of 16. They beat FC Copenhagen 4-3 on aggregate in the round of 16. Welsh forward Craig Bellamy scored a brace in the second leg to give City victory after they had drawn the first leg in Denmark.

After beating FC Copenhagen, City were beaten 1-0 by a resolute West Ham side in the Premier League, but they then bounced back to upset Aston Villa 2-0. A penalty from Elano and a late goal from Shaun Wright Phillips gave City all three points at Eastlands.

 

 

AaB Aalborg produced the result of the tournament when they knocked Deportivo La Coruna out in the round of 32. Despite having not played competitive football for a while, they won the home leg 3-0 in Denmark, and then outplayed Deportivo 3-1 at the Riazor to win the tie 6-1 on aggregate.

New manager Magnus Pehrsson has made a positive start at Aab. He also won his first game of the new Superliga season, beating Horsens 1-0. Andreas Johansson scored the only goal for Aab in that game. Aab drew 1-1 with FC Nordsjaelland in their weekend Superliga game. Jeppe Lund Curth found the back of the net for Aab. The Danish side were particularly dangerous in dead ball situations against Deportivo, and City’s backline will have to constantly be on high alert.
