Manchester City will be looking to shrug off their controversial defeat to arch rivals Manchester United from last weekend and return to winning ways when they welcome West Ham in their next match on Monday. The Citizens took part in one of the most exciting Manchester derbies in recent seasons as they managed to restore parity no less than three times against the defending champions. Wayne Rooney opened the scoring early in the second minute but Gareth Barry ensured that both the teams go into half time on level terms by scoring the equalizer.

Darren Fletcher twice put United ahead in the second half but Craig Bellamy answered with two goals of his own with the last one coming in the final minute of normal time. While the fourth official had displayed four minutes of added time, referee Martin Atkinson extended the injury time by three more minutes, allowing Michael Owen to score the winner in the 95th minute. City go into the game after sneaking in a narrow 2-1 win over Fulham in their Carling Cup game with Gareth Barry and Kolo Toure hitting the back of the net.

West Ham on the other hand are off to a disappointing start to the new season managing just one win in their first five games. The Hammers currently sit 16th in the league table with 4 points and manager Gianfranco Zola will be expecting improvement from his side as he attempts to build on last season's impressive showing that saw West Ham finish inside the top half of the table.
