The German giants put up an excellent performance to stage a come from behind victory in the first leg as late goals from Franck Ribery and Ivica Olic helped Bayern overcome Wayne Rooney’s sixth minute goal. Bayern will be confident of progressing to the next round having not lost a single game against United in their last three trips to Old Trafford.

United coach Alex Ferguson will be hopeful that his side can improve on their performance and book a place in the semi finals for a third successive season. The English champions will be without Wayne Rooney who twisted his ankle during the first leg and is out of action for at least three weeks. Owen Hargreaves and John O'Shea have both recovered from their injuries and are available for selection on Wednesday.
