Portugal travel to the Ta'Qali National Stadium to take on Malta in their first World Cup Qualifying encounter this Saturday. Watch all the live soccer streams here on Live Sport Network.

This will also be the first competitive game for new Portugal boss Carlos Queiroz. The former Manchester United assistant replaced Luiz Felipe Scolari after the failed Euro 2008 campaign in June. This is his second stint as the national coach after a previous spell that ended in 1994 when Portugal failed to qualify for the World Cup that year.

 

 

Queiroz has recalled midfielders Maniche and Pedro Mendes to the squad and has also named in-form Sporting Lisbon striker Yannick Djalo in his squad. Maniche was out of Portugal's 2008 European Championship squad after loss of form and will feature for the first time since February this year.

Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo is a notable absentee in the squad and is recovering from an ankle operation.

 

 

Queiroz has solid defensive experience in the form of Jose Bosingwa, Paulo Ferreira, Ricardo Carvalho and Pepe. Despite the absence of Ronaldo, the midfield has a strong look with Deco, Joao Moutinho and Raul Meireles. Hugo Almeida will be looking to stake for a place in the starting eleven and may replace Nuno Gomes there.
