Mali on their part will hope to win this game and pray for a result in the clash between Angola and Algeria. Mali began the AFCON in a thrilling manner to come from 4-0 down to hold hosts Angola to a 4-4 draw.

But in their next game against Algeria, they slipped to a 1-0 loss thanks to a 43rd minute goal from Rafik Halliche. Mali will now need a win here in order to keep alive their hopes of qualification for the enxt stage. Much will depend on Barcelona midfielder Seydou Keita and Frederic Kanoute if Mali are to progress here.

Meanwhile Malawi slipped to a 2-0 loss to Angola in their second group game following their 3-o win over Algeria in the first game. Hosts Angola were worthy winners thanks to goals from Flavio and Manucho. Malawi were not allowed to settle down and although they had decent chances, they were unable to convert them.

A win for Malawi in this game will see them qualify for the quarterfinals regardless of the result in the other game. Manager Kinnah Phiri will hope his side can hold their nerve and collect all three points from this one.
