Manchester United start their 2009 Asia Tour with a game against Malaysian XI at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. Catch up with all Manchester United Live games by signing up with us here on Live Sport Network.
The defending Premier League champions will play four games on this tour and it is expected that at least 50,000 fans are due to watch the first game this weekend. Sir Alex Ferguson will be hard pressed to choose his best squad as 22 members of his team are traveling on this tour. Brazilian left-back Fabio da Silva and Italian striker Federico Macheda are the only names in this squad not to have featured for their respective countries.
The Reds will hope to have a good workout on this tour and iron out any kinks so that they will be ready to fire once the new season begins on August 15. While the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez has surely dented United’s strike power, it is not expected to make any difference as far as their fan base in Asia is concerned. New signings Obertan and Antonio Valencia are not traveling to the Far East, but Michael Owen is expected to make his debut in a United shirt in this game. Ferguson will also be keen to test the readiness of the likes of Darron Gibson and Zoran Tosic on this tour.
