Scotland face a tricky trip to Macedonia in the first match of their 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign with manager George Burley hoping erase Scotland's Euro 2008 disappointment by qualifying for the World Cup finals in South Africa. Scotland finished five points behind Norway during the 2006 World Cup qualifiers but Burley will be confident that his side can finish at least second in a group that contains no serious rival apart from the Netherlands and Norway.

 

 

Shaun Maloney has reaped instant dividends from his move to Celtic in the summer with the former Aston Villa players being recalled to the national team. Birmingham City striker Garry O'Connor has also been recalled after spending nearly 10 months out of the national squad. O'Connor has looked in good form for Birmingham in the Championship and has scored 2 goals in 2 matches so far.

Kris Commons, Darren Barr and Kevin Thomson have all retained their places after being selected for Scotland's friendly against Northern Ireland early last month. Tottenham Hotspur full-back Alan Hutton is out with a foot injury while Lee McCulloch, Michael Stewart and Steven Fletcher are absent from the 25-man squad.
