The MLS All Star Game 2009 will see the best from Major League Soccer take on FA Cup runners up Everton at the Rio Tinto Stadium in Utah. In 2003, they beat Chivas de Guadaljara 3-1. In 2005, they beat Fulham 4-1, and the following year they got the better of Fulham's London neighbours Chelsea. Scottish giants Celtic were seen off 2-0 in 2007, while West Ham United were beaten 3-2 in 2008. 2008 All Stars MVP Cuauhtemoc Blanco received a late call up to the squad to replace Toronto FC's Dwayne de Rosario, who will be on club duty. Coached by Dominic Kinnear, the All Stars side have players like Landon Donovan, Conor Casey, Freddie Ljungberg and Kasey Keller in their ranks. One notable absentee is Guillermo Barros Schelotto, the Most Valuable Player in the MLS last season. ![]() Everton have already played three pre-season friendlies this month. They started off with a 2-1 loss to Bury, and then beat Rochdale 4-1. However they again tasted defeat at the hands of Argentine giants River Plate in Canada, losing by a solitary goal. Veteran playmaker Ariel Ortega scored the winner for River against Everton. Both Jo and Louis Saha have managed to find the back of the net for the Toffees in their pre-season friendlies. South African midfielder Steven Pienaar is a doubt for this clash with a leg injury. Manager David Moyes will have to do without Yakubu as the striker is injured.
