Lyon lost to PSG last week, but bounced back to defeat Fiorentina 2-1 in Italy. Jean Makoun and Karim Benzema were the scorers for Lyon. Benzema in particular had a brilliant game, having a hand in both of Lyon’s goals. His pace, trickery and finishing will cause all sorts of problems for Valenciennes.

Skipper Juninho will miss this game as he was sent off against PSG. Right back Anthony Reveillere suffered a knee injury against PSG that will keep him out for the rest of the season. Cesar Delgado, Francois Clerc and Mathieu Bodmer are all unavailable. The likes of John Mensah and Jeremy Toulalan are however fit to play.

 

 

If Lyon have not lost a game at home, Valenciennes have failed to win even a single game away from Stade Nungessser. They are just above bottom of the table St.Etienne on goal difference. Valenciennes drew 2-2 against Sochaux last week, with Slovan Privat’s late goal denying VA all three points. Valenciennes are a whopping 23 points behind Lyon in the league table.

Midfielder Jonathan Lacourt is suspended for Valenciennes. Yazzines Bezzaz is also an absentee, with an ankle injury keeping him out till the new year. VA have only scored two away goals all season, and have not won a game since August 23, when they beat Lorient.
