A brace from Karim Benzema helped Lyon to beat Le Mans 3-1 last week. Defender Jean Alain Boumsong gave Lyon the lead by heading home Juninho’s corner, and Benzema doubled it just before the break. Benzema made it 3-0 in the second half, putting away the rebound after Kallstrom’s shot had been parried by Yohann Pele.

Monaco are currently in mid table obscurity, with 36 points to show for their efforts after thirty games. They have been hugely inconsistent- a fact supported by recent results. They beat Toulouse, and then lost to Grenoble. They then beat Nancy, only to suffer a shocking loss to bottom placed Le Havre.

Croatian international Dario Simic was sent off against Le Havre, and will miss this game as a result. A win against Le Havre would have almost certainly guaranteed Monaco a spot in Ligue 1 next season, but Ricardo’s men will now have to wait a little longer.
