OL’s season started off on the wrong foot as they drew away at Le Mans, but since then, they have gone on to win five out of five in all competitions. Their last game, which took place before the international break, saw the Rhone Valley outfit beat Nancy 3-1 at home.

Bafetimbi Gomis opened the scoring for Lyon on 38 minutes and Lisandro Lopez, who is proving to more than an able successor to Karim Benzema, doubled OL’s lead shortly after the interval. Youssouf Hadji managed to pull one back for Nancy, but Lyon sealed victory when Michel Fernandes Bastos scored Les Gones’ third of the game on 68 minutes. OL have managed to keep pace with defending champions Bordeaux and PSG, but are currently third on goal difference.

Lorient recovered from their loss at the hands of AS Monaco to beat Le Mans 1-0 in their last Ligue 1 game. Despite the uncertainty over the future of their manager Christian Gourcuff, the Britanny outfit won 1-0 thanks to a second half free kick from French Polynesian striker Marama Vahirua.

In last season’s corresponding fixture, Lorient managed to come away from Stade Gerland with a point. Fabrice Abriel was the scorer for Les Merlus. Lyon are also sweating on the fitness of defender Jean-Alain Boumsong, who picked up a groin injury in training.
