After picking up just two points from their last three games, French champions Olympique Lyonnais got back to winning ways as they beat struggling Sochaux 2-0 at Stade Auguste Bonal. However they face a stiffer test this Sunday in the form of Yves Bertucci’s Le Mans at Stade Gerland. The goals against Sochaux came from Karim Benzema, Ligue 1’s top goalscorer so far, and Cesar Delgado. Sochaux also had Stephane Dalmat and Damien Perquis sent off towards the end of the game. The result saw Lyon reclaim top spot from Bordeaux, who had earlier beaten Le Havre 4-0. Le Puel made a very interesting change to the first 11, handing youngster Lamine Gassama his first start of the season. With Gassama and Anthony Reveillere both on the right wing, Puel chose to bench Kader Keita. The Le Mans game is crucial as it is followed by a Champions League game against Steaua Bucharest.

 

 

Le Mans are currently fifth in the table, with eighteen points from eleven games. They slipped up at Leon-Bollée in midweek, losing 2-0 to Auxerre. Dennis Oliech scored both the goals for the visitors. The loss ended Le Mans’ five game unbeaten streak. Their away form has been quite impressive so far. They have beaten Nantes, Lille and Le Havre, and drawn with Nice and Rennes. However they will come under severe pressure from Lyon, who have an equally good record at home. Le Mans came very close to handing Lyon a defeat at Stade Gerland in the corresponding fixture last season. They lead 2-0 till 70 minutes thanks to a brace from Stephane Sessegnon, and then lost the plot in the next seven minutes as Govou, Benzema and Baros scored for Lyon.
