It was only their second home defeat in 38 games and the result all but ended any lingering hopes of a title challenge with the Reds 12 points behind league leaders Chelsea with the season nearing its halfway stage. With almost all of his squad fully fit, there will be no more excuses for Rafa Benitez and the Liverpool manager could be out of the job if his side remains outside the top four of the table by the start of the New Year.

Meanwhile Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez will be hoping that his side can put up a performance similar to the one that saw them register a shock win over Chelsea early this season. The Latics have been inconsistent throughout the first half of the season and find themselves 14th in the league table, just four points away from the drop zone.
