A disappointing loss to Atletico Madrid means that a defeat to Liverpool in their next match could all but end PSV's hopes of making it to the knockout stages. The hosts were left clueless as Atletico ran riot at the PSV Stadion with Sergio Aguero scoring a brace while Manchie added the third.

PSV failed to qualify out of the group stages last season, finishing third in their group with two wins and a draw. Liverpool on the other hand could find themselves in a very strong position to qualify from the toughest group in the Champions League competition if they manage to collect all three points against PSV on Wednesday. The English club secured a narrow 2-1 win over Marseille in their first match with Steven Gerrard scoring a brace after Cana had put the hosts in the lead.

Gerrard is still searching for his 100th goal for Liverpool after he failed to hit the target both against Stoke City and Everton in their last two league games. Both the teams were drawn in the same during the 2006-07 season with Liverpool winning their home game 3-0.
