The Reds' title challenge looked over even before it started as they suffered two defeats in their first three matches. However they look to have settled down and have registered three straight wins including a narrow 3-2 victory away to West Ham last weekend.
Fernando Torres opened the scoring for Liverpool early in the first half while Dirk Kuyt scored a second four minutes from the half time whistle but West Ham equalized on both occasions with Alessandro Diamanti and Carlton Cole hitting the back of the net. However Torres scored his second of the match late in the game to snatch all three points for his side.
While manager Rafa Benitez will be pleased with his side's recent performances, the Spanish coach will be aware that his players will have to step up a level if they are to have any hopes of remaining in touch with Chelsea and Manchester United at the top of the league table.
Having had a near perfect start to their campaign last season, Hull City are increasingly looking like a side destined to finish in the relegation zone come the end of the season. Just four points from their first six games has seen Hull slip to just one spot above the bottom of the league table.
Hull suffered their fourth defeat of the season as a Garry O'Connor goal late in the game helped Birmingham City secure a narrow 1-0 win in a game that was being billed as an early six pointer for both the teams expected to struggle near the lower end of the league table.
