Liverpool are expected to register a thumping win over Champions League debutants Debrecen when the two teams meet in their first group stage match at Anfield on Wednesday. The Reds will be keen to get their European campaign on a winning start and with Liverpool facing some tricky trips to Lyon and Fiorentina, manager Rafa Benitez will be aware that his side can ill afford to drop points at home.

Liverpool had a decent European campaign last season, beating Real Madrid 5-0 on aggregate in the knockout stage but losing out to Chelsea in the quarter finals. Benitez's arrival has transformed Liverpool's form on the European stage and the club has put up consistent performances in the Champions League for the last five seasons.

Debrecen on the other hand will be representing their country for the first time in the Champions League group stage. The Hungarian club has had an excellent qualifying campaign, winning five of their six matches, which include away wins against Levadia Tallinn and Levski Sofia.

However they face a tough task in their first group game and manager Andras Herczeg will want a good performance from his players even if they lose the game. Debrecen's last visit to England was back in 2005 when they lost 3-0 to Manchester United in their third qualifying round match.
