Liverpool will be looking for a quick return to form following their debacle against Manchester United with a convincing victory over Portsmouth in their next Premiership match on Saturday.

The Kops failed to get any points against a potential early title clash against United last week, leaving themselves with an uphill task if the club is to pose a serious title challenge in the second part of the season.

Carlos Tevez scored the only goal of a hard fought match leaving the Anfield faithful frustrated with their attack that could not convert three golden chances that came their way. The defeat has left Liverpool 10 points behind league leaders Arsenal but they do have a game in hand over other title rivals.

With the club co-owner George Gillett giving Rafa Benitez his full backing to do the needful, the Spanish manager will be hoping that his team chalks up a string of victories and close down the gap at the top of the table as soon as possible.

Portsmouth on the other hand continued to suffer a home goal jinx as they sank to a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham at Fratton Park in their last Premiership clash. Dimitar Berbatov's late strike was enough to bury Portsmouth at home. Surprisingly Pompey have been good travelers this season, but have failed to score at home in their last four games.

Manager Harry Redknapp knows this will have to change fast if they are to challenge for a place in Europe at the end of the season. And with Nigeria planning to call strikers Kanu and John Utaka two weeks early for the African Nations' Cup, Redknapp is desperate for goals.
