Liverpool will be looking to build on their record breaking win over Besiktas with a convincing victory over Porto when the two teams meet in their next UEFA Champions League clash on Wednesday.

Liverpool will have to win their remaining two matches in hand if they are to have any hopes of qualifying to the knockout stages of the competition. Two defeats and a draw in the opening three matches of the group stage saw Liverpool on the verge of elimination from the competition.

However the Kops came back strongly in their last match, smashing home eight goals to register the highest win ever in the competition's history, sparking hopes of a late comeback. Yossi Benayoun scored a sensational hat trick while Ryan Babel and Peter Crouch bagged two goals a piece with Gerrard scoring the other.

Liverpool have lost just three times in last 12 matches against Portuguese opponents and each time to Benfica. The Kops were dumped out of the 2005-06 Champions League after losing both the matches in the knockout round. Liverpool have won against Porto in the only match that the two teams met, back in 2000-01 UEFA Cup quarter-finals.

Porto held on to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the fixture after taking the lead through Lucho González. However Liverpool equalized through Dirk Kuyt and held on for a point after been reduced to 10 men with Jermaine Pennant being sent off in the second half.

Meanwhile Porto will qualify to the knockout stages if they hold on for a point at Anfield on Wednesday. The Portuguese side are currently top of the group table with 8 points from 4 matches with two victories and two draws.
