The Kops' season went from bad to worse when they were knocked out of the FA Cup by a determined Barnsley side last weekend. Liverpool looked on course for an easy victory after Dirk Kuyt put them in the lead in the 32nd minute but Barnsley equalized in the second half through Stephen Foster before a late goal by Brian Howard saw them cause an upset.

The defeat has lead to increase in calls for manager Rafa Benitez's head with the Spaniard's much criticized rotation system once again coming under the scanner. With Liverpool struggling to finish fourth in the league, pressure will be on Benitez to turn things around and help the club rise up the league table.

Meanwhile just three losses in their last 10 matches has seen Middlesbrough stave off the threat of relegation for the time being and manager Gareth Southgate will be hoping to maintain their recent good form and attempt to finish in the top half of the league table.

Boro overcame a stubborn Fulham defense in their last league match and emerged 1-0 victors with Jeremie Aliadiere hitting the back of the net early in the 11th minute of the game. Boro have already held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw early this season and Southgate will be satisfied with a similar result this time around.
