Manchester City will be looking to put behind the uncertainty over their manager's future and continue to push for a European place for the next season when they visit Liverpool in their next Premiership match on Sunday. Manchester City have been in the reports for all the wrong reasons throughout the week after it was revealed that manager Sven Goran Eriksson could be on his way out of the club in spite of the club still in with a chance of qualifying for Europe.

The British press have reported that Eriksson's meeting with City owner Thaksin Shinawatra has not gone well and the former England manager was told that he will be sacked at the end of the season. Eriksson's agent Athole Still confirmed the news saying that the Swede is not likely to be at the helm for the next season.

After a poor run of form since the turn of the year, City looked to have struck a green patch by registering back to back wins against Sunderland and Portsmouth. However a defeat to relegation strugglers Fulham seems to have been the last straw for Shinawatra who is now looking to replace Eriksson with Portugal manager Luiz Felipe Scolari in the summer.

However Manchester City's first win over Liverpool in three years could lift some pressure off Eriksson, taking City's challenge for a European spot down to the last game of the season. With Liverpool assuring themselves of a place in the Champions League for the next season, manager Rafa Benitez is expected to experiment with his tactics as well as the starting line up.
