Romania need to win their crunch tie against Lithuania at the Zalgiris Stadium this Saturday if they are to finish their qualifying campaign for the World Cup 2010 on a high note. However Romania appear to have given up on South Africa if the statements given out by new boss Razvan Lucescu are any indication. Lucescu was appointed after Victor Piturca was sacked in April for the side's poor performances. The Romanians currently lie in the fifth spot in Group Seven with just four points from five games.

They lost their last game by a 2-1 margin against Austria. Cristian Tanase had given Romania, but a brace from Erwin Hoffer put paid to any hopes that the team entertained.

The Romania boss is also facing injury worries as striker Adrian Mutu is sidelined with a knee injury that required surgery last month.

Lithuania on the other hand are enjoying a dream run in the qualifying rounds having climbed to the third spot in Group Seven behind Serbia and France. A win in this game will take them to the second spot in the group.

In their last game in April, Lithuania lost 1-0to France thanks to a lone goal scored by Franck Ribery. However with their surprising showing so far, fans will hope they can beat a despondent Romanian team and challenge for a top two finish in the group.
