Lithuania v Ukraine LiveUkraine travel to Lithuania knowing very well that their last couple of Euro 2008 qualifiers are for academic purposes. Ukraine have no chance of making it through to Austria and Switzerland for Euro 2008 next year, but they might still be able to prevent France from making the trip.
Lithuania are also in the same boat as Ukraine, but will be hoping to make as much as possible from their last games and end their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign on a high note. Lithuania coach Algimantas Liubinskas has named a 26-man squad for the game, in which Marius Stankevicius returns after recovering from a broken collarbone. Darvydas Šernas is a surprise inclusion into the squad.
However Deividas Šemberas and Deividas Cesnauskis are out with injury and the Lithuanian midfield wears an inexperienced look. Audrius Ksanavicius and Aurimas Kučys are out with suspension after picking up two yellow cards, while Saulius Mikoliunas is out after copping a two-match ban.
Ukraine coach Oleh Blokhin has also named a strong 19-man squad for the final Euro 2008 qualifying games against Lithuania and France. FC Dynamo Kyiv defender Serhiy Fedorov could make his first appearance for Ukraine in over a year after recovering from a serious knee injury.
Ukraine had lost 3-1 to Scotland in last month's qualifier, but recovered nicely with a 5-0 rout of Faroe Islands. However even that was of no use as their campaign was doomed. Gusev scored a brace to lift the fans spirits in that game.
Lithuania are fifth in Group B with 10 points from as many games, while Ukraine are fourth with 16 points from 10 games.
