Lille are thirteenth in the table, tied on points with Paris Saint-Germain but below the capital outfit on goal difference. They beat Valenciennes 4-0 in Ligue 1 last week. Rudi Garcia’s men took the lead in the 42^nd minute through Pierre- Alain Frau. The former Lyon striker headed in Yohan Cabaye’s corner to break the deadlock.

The prolific Gervinho scored twice in the space of nine second half minutes to put Lille 3-0 ahead, and the win was complete when Yohan Cabaye converted from the spot in the 87^th minute. Lille were given the penalty after Eden Hazard was fouled in the Valenciennes box. It was a great victory for Lille, given that the fixture was a local derby of sorts.

Lyon on the other hand could only draw 1-1 with Stade Rennais. It was OL’s third straight Ligue 1 draw, and they have now only won once in their last six league games. A win against Rennes would have seen OL join Bordeaux at the top of the table.

Lyon fell behind at Stade Gerland in the fourteenth minute when Ghanaian Asamoah Gyan put Rennes 1-0 ahead. However Lyon’s number 9, Argentine striker Lisandro Lopez struck a wonderful free kick just before half time to level the scores. The free kick was won by Lopez after he had been fouled by Yann M’Vila. Bafetimbi Gomis hit the post for OL late in the game, but they were unable to grab a winner.
